Much of my work is Social Issue Art. I refer to these as--

" WHISTLEBLOWERS:Trumpeters of Conscience."

There is an inner image which I transform into line, shape, color, a sense of movement and surprise. In the same way the nature of a crisis will dictate how to solve it, the nature of the issues I deal with sculpturally involves different materials and the mixing of materials. The whimsical quality in the work serves both as a lure and a buffer. This enables the viewer to stay with the sculpture and relate to the seriousness of the work without feeling the need to avoid it. My work falls into the Social Propagandist School of Art which had borrowed from Journalistic and Poster Art styles intended to simplify concepts and amplify impact. I create Specific Issue work: "Giuliani: I Am Heartbroken, Hungry and Homeless and generic Whistleblowers as well.

A Memorial Work in honor of FDNY - The Bravest

One could say our Firefighters have no sense of direction at all. Yet they know themselves -- who they are and why they elected to do the work of protecting us. While citizens were running out and north towards safety, our firefighters were running into the collapsing Towers. They knew; they could tell; they understood the severity of the situation. Still they ran in the opposite direction -- not towards safety but right into the flaming Towers.

Bravery, honor and commitment are the keys to their oath which they do not take lightly or shirk. Theirs is a commitment to serve and protect -- a commitment which most in life and public service cannot grasp. Their families know the meaning of their devotion and all too often worry and wonder whether their firefighters will get home at all or if they will get home unharmed. From the depths of poignant misfortune comes the profound appreciation of what their supreme sacrifice means to us all.
